William
Fantini - Producer of Film, Video and Digital Media
William
Fantini has produced short films, music videos, commercials,
multimedia
broadcasts, web sites and a horde of printed materials. And,
he has written one feature length screen play and over twenty
movie
treatments.
William Fantini
graduated from the Boston University College of Communications
in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcasting and Film.
Immediately
after graduation, was offered a position as a production assistant
on an independent feature film being produced in Miami, Florida.
When he arrived in Miami, he was the third person on the crew,
and quickly took on every responsibility available.
Within two
weeks he had designed and built the production sets needed for
several scenes of the film. A few weeks later, he was making phone
calls arranging for locations, permits, insurance and contracts
for cast and crew. By the time the full crew arrived from New
York, Will was giving the titles of 2nd Assistant Director and
Unit Production Manager.
The film was
called "The Electric Hummingbird," and through superhuman
efforts on everyone's part, it was filmed in three and a half
weeks with two more weeks of second unit filming. Several experienced
people on the crew called Will, "the hardest working man
in show business," because he was the first on the set, last
to leave and was in motion 20 hours a day.
When "The
Electric Hummingbird" was finished, Will stayed in Miami
and worked with the Producer on several more projects as Associate
Producer and Assistant Director, though he was also operating
cameras, coaching talent and contributing to the overall creative
process. After a few months, he decided it was time to set out
on his own to write and direct and gain more experience in Assistant
Director Department on bigger productions. Logically, he moved
to Los Angeles.
Will worked
on several Film, Video and Commercial productions in any department
where he could learn and contribute, including art department,
grip department, camera department, and assistant director department.
On every production, he was regarded for his dedication, commitment
and professionalism.
By early 1992,
Will had enough credits in A.D. department to apply for membership
in the Directors Guild of America. He faced a bit of a quandary
in that he felt everything he was doing was keeping him on the
production side of the industry and not opening any opportunities
on the creative side.
Will spoke
with several producers and directors whom he had met and trusted
who advised him that the more time and energy he spent in production,
the less likely it would be for him to transition to the creative
side. In essence, they advised him to get out while he could...
"go away and write and produce your own stuff and then come
back, if you still want to."
In the spring
of 1992, Will left the film industry to work as a freelance photographer
and moved first to New Mexico and then to Nashville, TN where
he found many opportunities as well as a clean, friendly and convenient
place to live. He has traveled all over the U.S. and abroad since
then while continuing to call Tennessee his home.
